High winds blew the roof off of the former Mohawk Pizza building, located just south of the corner of Front Street and Court. The majority of the roof was then propelled northward, over the top of the building that housed the cable office and across Court Street sheering off the top of the power pole at that location. The remainder of the roof then rolled across the top of the buildings on the west side of Front Street, damaging the roofs of the BRAD food pantry, Front Street Pizza, Edmund's Heating and Cooling and Apex Glass.
The debris pile came to rest in the parking lot of the Piggott Community Hospital Specialty Clinic, after travelling nearly a block and a half.
A storage shed behind the city-owned building that formerly housed Print City was also destroyed by the storm, a great deal of damage was sustained to the roof of the Subway on East Main and the roof was peeled from an unoccupied home on South Garfield. Otherwise, the majority of other local residents reported just minor wind damage and items blown out of their yards and carports.
The storm system is being blamed for one death in the Pearson community of Cleburne County, and for damage to dozens of homes and businesses from the Little Rock area into Southern Missouri.
We'll have more details on the storm, and the damage incurred locally, in the March 17 print edition of The Piggott Times.
