The Piggott Mohawks continued to take advantage of the favorable weather in the past week, getting in three games and winning two. Tuesday afternoon's contest against the Rector Cougars at Independence Park fell victim to the wet conditions though, while the chances of getting in Thursday's contest at Corning were still up in the air at press time.

Mohawks at Gosnell Pirates

Last Tuesday the Mohawks visited the Gosnell Pirates for a non-conference tune-up and got a complete game from Colby Lovelace as they won 4-3. Lovelace worked all seven innings in the win, fanning nine and walking three. The big right hander also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBI. Meanwhile, Hayden McMillon also went 2 for 3 and Tanner Murray stroked an RBI double.

Brad Nelson worked five innings and took the loss for the Pirates, with Blake Sullivan appearing in relief.

Mohawks at Hoxie Mustangs

The Tribe notched their second win of the season Thursday afternoon, as they traveled to Hoxie and hung an 8-3 loss on the Mustangs. Alek Samples got the win, working five innings and striking out seven. Zach Redmon came on in relief for the Mohawks, striking out three as he worked the final two innings in the win.

At the plate Lovelace continued to have the hot bat as he drove in three of the Mohawk runs, Samples also had three hits and Kyle Hardin was 2 for 4 as the Tribe notched their first conference win.

Mohawks at Rivercrest Colts

The Mohawks tasted defeat for the first time this year Monday afternoon, losing a tough 2-3 decision at Rivercrest to the talented Colts. Lovelace continued to be the workhorse on the mound for the Tribe, pitching all seven innings.

"Colby pitched well, we started the game off kind of slow but we finished strong," Coach Shawn Hearn said of the contest. "It was a good ballgame, we just didn't capitalize."

Lovelace took the loss, facing a total of 27 batters with eight strikeouts, seven walks and giving up two hits. Tanner Murray was 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI, and the Mohawks also got hits from Lovelace, Spencer Coomer and Kyle Wright.

The Tribe now stands at 2-1-1 and 1-1 in 3A-3 conference play. Weather permitting they'll visit the Corning Bobcats Thursday and will host the Pocahontas Redskins Friday afternoon at Independence Park. The Mohawk's will also host conference foe Manila Monday, March 15 and will travel to Blytheville to take on the Chicks Tuesday. First pitch on all Mohawk regular season games is 4 p.m.
