Sunday night a frontal system pushed first sleet and freezing rain, and then snow, back into the area. During the day Monday varying amounts of frozen precipitation fell, but by late afternoon much of that had melted. Monday afternoon snow began to fall again, and by Tuesday morning an additional three-to-four inches was on the ground.
This prompted another round of school closures across the region, with the most hazardous conditions reported to the south of Clay County.
Tuesday's forecast called for temperatures to fall throughout the day, with lows falling into the upper teens overnight. More cold conditions were forecast on Wednesday, and the long range forecast was calling for an additional dusting of snow Thursday night and another chance of snow by the weekend.
