Mohawks take second in Cooter tourney

The Piggott Mohawks advanced to the championship game of the Cooter Invitational Basketball Tournament last week, and fell to the host Wildcats. Tuesday night the Tribe was scheduled to take on the Westside Warriors in the first round of the Pre-Holiday Invitational Tournament at Brookland.

Mohawks vs Southland at Cooter

After getting by Delta C-7 in the first round at Cooter, the Mohawks dispatched the Southland Rebels easily to advance to the final.

In the contest against the Rebels the Mohawks dominated the team from Cardwell, Mo. as they cruised to a 49-12 victory.

The Mohawks jumped out to an early lead 16-2, extended that to 37-10 by the halftime break and never looked back as they held the Southland squad to just two points in the second half.

Hayden McMillon led the Mohawks on the game with 15 points, with Spencer Coomer chipping in an additional eight points in the win. The Tribe also had a good night at the free-throw line as they went 13 for 17, while the Rebels were 0 for 4 from the charity stripe.

Mohawks vs Cooter

With the win over Southland, the Mohawks advanced to Friday night's championship game at Cooter and a showdown with the host Wildcats. And the home team had a hot night as they cruised to the win 75-51.

The first quarter remained fairly close, with the Wildcats leading 15-10 after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter they extended the lead to 16 as they took a 37-21 lead into the locker room. Cooter then went on a third quarter tear, and outscored the Mohawks 22-7 in the period as they went on to notch the win.

Tanner Murray led the Mohawk attack with 9 points, and 10 rebounds, while Coomer finished with 8 and Jon Perkins, McMillon and Alek Samples had 7 each in the loss. Watkins paced the Wildcats with 28.

Monday evening the junior Mohawks fell to Brookland 40-58 in their first round game in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Brookland High School. Tuesday evening the senior boys were scheduled to take on the Westside Warriors in their first round game. The Tribe's next regular season game will be Tuesday, Dec. 14 as they visit the Hoxie Mustangs.
