Organizers report that a number of vendors will be set-up around the court square that afternoon, as they offer a variety of craft items and food, plus Santa Claus will be in his house for all the kids. Chamber planners noted that there will also be entertainment, a 50/50 drawing and drawings for prizes. The activities will culminate at 6 p.m. that evening with the annual Christmas parade. The chamber will be offering prizes for several categories in the parade, including--best decorated float, best decorated bicycle, antique car, antique tractor and best depiction of the theme; "Shop at Home for Christmas."
Piggott is also listed in the 2008 Arkansas Trail of Holiday Lights brochure this year, and the chamber is encouraging all businesses to decorate their windows for the holiday season.
There will also be a window decorating contest again this year, and more information is available by contacting the chamber office.
The chamber has also announced that the week will officially kick-off with a special lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. The city has agreed to put lights on the pine tree located at the northwest corner of the court square, and Mayor Gerald Morris will have the honor of throwing the switch to get the week underway.
The local chamber is also working with several local merchants on the Christmas Saver program, which is also part of the "shop at home" theme. The saver book is on sale at the chamber office, Feather Your Nest, The Treasure Chest, Suzy's, Sugar Creek Antiques, Piggott Florist and Payless Rentals and includes a variety of discounts from a number of local businesses for the week of Dec. 1-7.
Those wanting more information on the Christmas Fest, or the Christmas Saver program, may contact the chamber at 598-3167. Those interested in placing an entry in the parade may contact organizer Monte Howell at 598-7734.
