This year there are well over 100 local kids taking part in the Pee Wee football program. But, unlike years past, the players have all been divided into local teams and all the games will be played in Piggott against the other squads. This has alleviated the travel aspect, and will afford all the kids a chance to gain playing time.
The third and fourth graders, along with a few fifth graders, make up the Rebels, Gators and Red Wolves while the fifth and sixth graders are members of the Raiders, Cowboys and Steelers. Each Tuesday night two teams from each division will play, while the other team has a bye-week. The younger players are scheduled to kick-off at 6 p.m. each week while the older kids will start at 7:00.
Next week, Sept. 30, the Wolves and Rebels play the early game while the Steelers and Raiders meet in the nightcap. On Oct. 7, the Gators and Wolves meet at 6 p.m. with the Cowboys and Steelers to follow. The Oct. 14 schedule features the Gators and Rebels in the early game while the Cowboys and Raiders play the late contest. On Oct. 21 the Rebels and Wolves meet in the 6 p.m. contest with the Raiders and Steelers facing-off in the 7:00 game. And the final night of the season will be Oct. 28, as the Wolves and Gators square off, followed by the Steelers and Cowboys.
All games are being played at Piggott's Parker Field, and all local football fans are encouraged to come out and support the next generation of Mohawk football players.
