DeHart leads at club tournament

For the 41st time the Sugar Creek Country Club hosted its annual individual club tournament this past weekend. Winner in the championship flight was Barry DeHart of Piggott with rounds of 61 and 69 for a two-day total of 130. That was four strokes better than second place Ashley McMillon, who shot a 66 and a 68 for a total of 134, Daniel Gossett took third with a 136 after shooting 63 and 73 and the fourth place finisher was Jackie Burdin with a 137 after he shot 70 and 67 over the two days.

Winner of "A" flight was Brad Montgomery with a 143, second was Ken Ozbun with a 145, third was Jerry Noble with a 146 and Travis Gossett shot a 147 to take fourth place honors.

In "B" flight there was a tie for first place between Shawn Forthman and Ray Stewart, after both shot 154 over the two days. There was also a tie for third as Greg Ward and Ron Fithian both carded 155's.

In "C" flight there was a three-way tie for first place between Jared Langley, Herbie Wright and Brian Gregory as all three players shot 164; while Dickie Mount rounded-out the winners with a 165.

There were two skins, a birdie on #16 by Randy Qualls and an eagle on #18 by Daniel Gossett. Closest to the pin awards went to DeHart on both number two and number six, and Scot Sale on hole number seven.

This marked the 41st annual tournament at the country club, as the first event was held over the weekend of Sept. 19-20, 1968. According to newspaper articles of the time the Championship flight ended in a tie for first place as C.W. Knauts and Joe Litz both shot 135's. Myron Rogers took "A" flight that year with a 154, Jamie Wallis took "B" flight with a 165 and Jim Hinkle took the "C" flight honors with a score of 193.
