In girls' singles play it was Piggott's Hillary French over Brittany Burns 6-2, Mercedes Arnold downed Ashley Bowers 6-3, Sierra Owens beat Alyssa Settlemoir 6-2 and Alex Scheffler completed the Mohawk sweep with a 6-4 win over Amanda Rouse.
In girls' doubles play it was Felicia Woodard and Brooke Grissom of Corning beating Owen and Scheffler of Piggott 7-5, while Whitney Woodard and Erica Rouse beat Piggott's Hallie Vannada and Elizabeth Ermert 6-0. In other double's play it was Piggott's Chelsea Covarrubia and Latrisha Reed over Cortney Moser and Caitlin Larue 6-0 and Emily Graddy and Kelli Wierzbicki beat Sarah Storms and Haley Turner 6-0. Vannada and Casey Grissom of Piggott combined for the final doubles win over Julie Lane and Stacy Roberts 6-3.
In boys singles action Piggott's Josh Small fell to Reagan Martin 6-3, and then turned around and beat Brandon Finley 6-1. Meanwhile, Zac Smart of Piggott fell to Logan Bateman 6-0 while Mohawk Spencer Coomer downed Nick Rice 6-1 in the other boy's singles match.
In boys doubles it was the team of Coomer and Trent Edwards of Piggott over Kyle Harvey and Jonathan McMasters of Corning 6-3… while Smart and Mark Greaney combined to post a 6-1 win over Brandon Harvey and Logan Carpenter. Completing the sweep for the Piggott doubles teams Coomer and Edwards then beat Colton Ladyman and Chris Fitzgerald 6-2 and Smart and Greaney downed Ethan Williams and Aaron Green of the Bobcats 6-1.
The Mohawk tennis teams, which are under the direction of long-time coach Paul Seegraves, are scheduled to visit Pocahontas next Monday, Sept. 15 and will travel to Corning on Sept. 23 as the regular season continues.
