He was born May 31, 1928, in Poplar Bluff and was of the Protestant faith. He was a self-employed sign painter and a deputy sheriff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
On June 28, 1993, he married Sandra Ann Dover of Poplar Bluffand she survives. Other survivors include four sons, Christopher Bishop of Farmington, Mo., Terry Bishop, Randy Bishop and Shain Bishop, all of Poplar Bluff; five daughters, Verna Meador and Gale Hager of Poplar Bluff, Mary Bishop and Crystal Wood of Arkansas and Michelle Campbell of Ohio; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Bishop; his parents, Horace Bishop Sr. and Connie (Lands) Bishop; a brother, Harold Lee Bishop; a sister, Charlotte Withrow, and a grandson, Mike Meador.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, in the Fitch-Hillis Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Thomas officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff. Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home of Poplar Bluff handled the arrangements.
