Mary Oneda Whitaker Vangilder, 92, of Rector died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

A life-long resident of this community, she was born Aug. 25, 1914, in Clay County to the late Norman and Calva (Randleman) Whitaker. She was married Jan. 18, 1937, to Loyd Myrl Vangilder, who preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1986.

She was a homemaker and a member of Cappadocia General Baptist Church.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Irvin Whitaker, and one sister, Nelle Jenkins.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and William Linam of Hot Springs Village, Joan and Leroy Thompson of Piggott, Sandra and Jim Bob Lentz of Marmaduke and Regenia and Gary Bettis of North Little Rock; one brother, Bernie Whitaker of Rector; two sisters, Faye Whitaker and Iva Vangilder of Rector; seven grandchildren, Shawn Linam, Derek Linam, Lance Thompson, Michael Lentz, Gary Bettis Jr., Kristen Yohe and Adam Bettis, and eight great-grandchildren, Camryn Garza, Avery Garza, Luke Linam, Hope Linam, Courtney Thompson, Natalie Lentz, Parker Lentz and Hannah Yohe.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Ronnie Stevens officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers were Derek Linam, Michael Lentz, Adam Bettis, Dale Vangilder, Andy Vangilder and Perry Whitaker. Irby Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of all arrangements.
