Myron Rogers

Myron Rogers, 86, of Piggott, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Crockett, Ark., and was the son of the late Walter James and Lottie Mae Carpenter Rogers.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Joy Wallace on Sep. 28, 1941, and to this union one son was born. Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine on Feb. 1, 1994. Later he married Kay Talbert.

Myron grew up at Piggott and, with the exception of military service, spent his life here. He served in the Marine Corps for three years (spending much of his time in the Marshall Islands and Okinawa). Myron was a successful businessman. He started Rogers Produce in 1949 and remained in business until 1993. For 44 years they were the area's largest supplier of chickens, eggs, and cattle. He was a member of the Arkansas Poultry and Egg Board for two years, a member of the Piggott City Council for two years, a member of the AIDC board, and selected as "Boss of the Year." He was President of the Piggott Chamber of Commerce when "A Face in the Crowd" was filmed. He was a 32nd degree Mason. And lastly, but of equal importance, he was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Piggott.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Rogers of Paragould; son Joey Rogers of Kennett; grandson, Dr. J. Scott Rogers and wife Jennifer of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three granddaughters, Alexandra, Claire and Sydney Rogers; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Wednesday and funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 1, in the First Christian Church in Piggott, with Jay McPhearson, Duane Dutka, and Jerry Morgan officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Sale, Don Poole, Jim Poole, Adam Dutka, and Shawn Parker. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
