He was born Feb. 17, 1935 in Black Oak, and was the son of Hubert and the late Bonnie Merryman Markum. He was married to Mary Martin on April 9, 1966 in Memphis. He was a retired sales representative and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church in Piggott.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Markum of Piggott; his father, Hubert Markum of Campbell; one son Monty Markum of Piggott; three daughters, Holly Searight (Dicky) of Collierville, Mary Dawn Tichenor of Potts Camp, Miss., Martye Nelson (Todd) of Jonesboro; one sister, Doris Jean Warren (John) of Albuquerque, N.Mex.; six grandchildren, Whitney and Matthew Searight of Collierville, Zachary and Amanda Tichenor of San Antonio, Tex., Jordan and Katier Nelson of Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Markum, and one son, Curtis Markum.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett with Rev. Mike Book officiating.
Pallbearers were Charles Pollard, Dallas Pollard, Carl Pollard, Donald Benson, Mike Cook, and Don Chastain.
Honorary Pallbearers were Allan Morris, Jerry Williams, Matthew Vancil, Chris Bellers, Vance Turner, Danny Brown, Charlie Poole, and Steven Long.
Burial is in Memorial Gardens in Kennett.
