Mrs. Mary Oliver

Mrs. Mary Oliver, 84, died on Nov. 17, 2006, of natural causes at the Ewing Wing of John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa, Calif. She had lived in Catheys Valley for the past thirty-five years.

Mrs. Oliver was born Nov. 14, 1922 in Pollard, Mary Josephine Johnson. She was a mother and homemaker. In 1971, she and her husband, Harlan Oliver purchased and managed Cap's Lighthouse Restaurant for three years. After retirement, Mary was actively involved in the John C. Fremont Hospital Volunteers, the AIMS group, and the Mariposa Senior Center painting classes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Beatrice Johnson; husband, Harlan Oliver of Catheys Valley; and sister, Vadala Holifield of Pollard.

She is survived by four children, Lawrence Oliver of Lancaster, Calif., Edward Oliver of Catheys Valley, Calif., Ron Oliver of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Janet Sue Oliver of Durango, Colo.; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Visitations were held from 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at the Mariposa Funeral Home in Mariposa. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Catheys Valley Cemetery on Hornitos Road.

In remembrance, the late Mary Oliver requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the John C. Fremont Hospital Volunteers in Mariposa.
