He was born July 15, 1933, in Greene County, the son of the late W.F. Stewart and Floye Light Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was the former owner of three Kwikway Restaurant's and four Stewart bars, Lemay Bowl and was a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Realtors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Stewart; and two sisters, Ovela Sheffield and Louise Nichols.
He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Jost on Dec. 25, 1951. They had two children. He later married Alice K. Waggner.
He is survived by his wife, Alice K. Stewart; two children, Steve Stewart and wife, Cammie, of Jefferson City, Mo., and Jeanie Stewart of Chesterfield, Mo.; two stepsons, Terry Hawn and wife, Patty, and Randall Hawn and wife, Linda Hill; two grandchildren, Jason and Robyn Stewart; three stepgrandchildren, Kerie Stewart, Adrienne Hawn and Melissa Hawn; one brother, Glen Stewart of Rector; two sisters, Sue Watson of Rector and Betty Jean Douglas of Columbia, Ill.; Pat Carpenter Craft, who was raised as a sister; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Kutis South County Chapel, located at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis. Burial followed at Park Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
