Vaughn Gene Bomar, 71, of Piggott died Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2006, at Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

He was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Blytheville, the son of Enloe Donaldson Bomar and Milie Hatley Bomar.

Mr. Bomar retired from the Piggott Police Department in 1996 after 24 years of service as a police officer in Missouri and Arkansas. He attained the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. Always a proud American, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. While in the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Merrick, the U.S.S. Bayfield and L.S.T. 1048.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny Barnes; and five sisters, Lena, Vena, Rudy, Maxine and Peggy. His beloved wife, Elaine Montgomery Bomar, also preceded him in death.

After Mr. Bomar was stricken with cancer and lost his wife, Elaine, in 2004, his life took a very unusual twist. He and his first wife, Arlene of Costa Mesa, Calif., began a long distance relationship that re-kindled a love they thought was lost almost 50 years. Those close to Mr. Bomar believe the spark of that relationship helped lengthen his life.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with his family honoring his memory during the service. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Myron Low, Kenny Parker, Gary Trout, Bill Alstadt, Don Poole and Danny Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Micah Bomar, Connor Bomar, Kyle Bomar, Clayton Herrington, Sam Williams, Richard Tippitt, Curt Williamson, Scott Redman and Justin Moody.
