Sylvia Virginia Hughes Wright

Sylvia Virginia Hughes Wright, 90, of Piggott died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 18, 1915, in St. Francis, the daughter of the late Ed and Anna Ward Hughes.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Andrew Wright on Jan. 29, 1937. Mr. Wright died April 12, 2005. They were married 68 years. They were the parents of seven children, Lottie Gookin and husband, Bill, of Piggott, Shirley Schoettlin of Piggott, James Wright and wife, Betty, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Charles Wright and wife, Elaine, of Piggott, Mary Clark of Oak Grove, Mo., Martha Powers and husband, Keith, of Brighton, Tenn., and John Wright of Campbell. She was grandma to 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Virginia Clark Wright of Cape Girardeau; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Gaylon Wright and Stephen Schoettlin.

Mrs. Wright was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and its choir, WMU and Nancy Hardcastle's Sunday school class. She loved music and played the piano by ear. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Royal Neighbors of America since the age of 17.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday (today), Dec. 28, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike Gookin, Jeff Gookin, Kenny Wright, Phil Schoettlin, Bill Clark, Andy Dixon, Brian Wright, Richard Lind Jr. and Michael Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Gookin, Ronny Dixon, Harold Dunlap, Thomas Sneed, Don Featherston, Keith Woolverton, Tom Hardcastle, Bobby Shanklin, Harry Niewald Sr. and Harry Niewald Jr.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.
