Charlie Shelby

Charlie Shelby, 88, of the General Baptist Nursing Home at Campbell, Mo., formerly of Rector and Piggott, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Veda Shelby, on Oct. 19, 2005; his parents, Lemuel Washington and Hattie Mae Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Vangilder Rogers and Charles Vangilder, and three sisters, Grace Copeland, Willie Shelby and Pauline Shelby.

He was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon since April 19, 1953.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Scott Sims of Piggott; two grandchildren, Alan and Brenda Vangilder of Addison, Texas, and Lori Sims of Piggott; two great-grandsons, Jason and Daniel Vangilder of Paragould; a brother, Glen Shelby of Michigan; a sister, Mary Layne, and a son-in-law, Jim Rogers of Piggott.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 28, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.

Pallbearers were Dwight Vangilder, Joe Vangilder, James Vangilder, Alvin Vangilder, James Lindsey, Howard Beaton, W.O. Layer and Earl Sims.
