Elvera Mae Smith

Elvera Mae Smith, 83, of Piggott died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Sept. 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Luther and Ada Neely Nettles.

She was united in marriage to the late Ralph Smith on Oct. 5, 1940. They had two children.

She was a member of the South Thornton Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Judy Holcomb and husband, Larry, of Piggott; one son, Ted Smith and wife, Bonnie, of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Dr. Shane Smith of Jonesboro, Tammy Keith and husband, David, of Conway, Stacey Baldwin and husband, Danny, of Piggott and Trent Holcomb and wife, Michelle, of Piggott; nine great-grandchildren, John and Scott Keith, Abby and Ben Holcomb, Meagan and Brice Swann and Cole, Alex and Daniel Baldwin; three sisters, Pansy Gross of Piggott, Elvia Permenter of Campbell and Clella Whiteside of Poplar Bluff; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Richard Akins and C.O. Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Active pallbearers were Dane Coomer, Brock Swann, Brent Coomer, Larry Smith, Newton Wells Jr. and Mike Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Burr Swann, Bob Tidwell, Hardin Hill, Fred Gross, Bill Irby Jr., Jerry Morgan and Dr. James Sheridan.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
