He was a retired postal employee and of the Baptist faith.
He was born on May 21, 1926, in Piggott, the son of Charles Marion Howard and Maude (Barnwell) Howard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Howard; his parents, Charles Marion and Maude Howard; five brothers, Earl Howard, Carl Howard, Bill Howard, Gene Howard and Earnest Howard; four sisters, Leah Bray, Mag Clemons, Blanche Howard and Mary Howard.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Rick Gillette of Trumann and Judy and Ivan Smart of Greenway; four grandchildren, Derek Gillette, Bradley Gillette, Mindy Carter and Shannon Smart; seven great-grandchildren, Tommy Edward Gillette, Emily Ann Gillette, Joseph Gillette, Damon Smart, Shanna Carter, Chandler Smart and Jacob Smart; and a loving sister, Frances McElvoy.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Charles Carrens and Dr. Shannon Holmes officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Bedwell, John Harlan, Arvil Skinner, John Tillman, Tony Pace and John Clemons. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Underwood, Bob Hampton, Dr. Hillard Duckworth, Harry Niewald and Willard Hughes.
Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
