She was born March 10, 1905, in Bethel Springs, Tenn., the daughter of Cullan Jackson and Love Ada Gee Armour.
After a blind date with a Missouri man and a nine-month courtship, she married William Cletis Pollard, the son of Walter and Mary Russom Pollard, on May 29, 1926, in Clay County. Mr. Pollard was the grandson of William Pollard, the founder of the town Pollard.
They had four children, all born in the Southeast Missouri area, Elizabeth Jean (Betty), William Jackson and twins Boyd and Lloyd. Their father was also a twin.
The couple moved to Oceanside when Mr. Pollard's health began to deteriorate in 1968 to be closer to their daughter, Betty.
Mrs. Pollard was of the Southern Baptist faith. Mr. Pollard served as a deacon for 44 years before he died on Jan. 28, 1982, in Oceanside, Calif., after suffering a heart attack.
She lived with her daughter in Oceanside and was an avid quilter with quilts scattered all over the United States. She loved teaching the art to the younger women in her church.
Mrs. Pollard credited her long life to hard work and Christian living, as well as having good genes - her father lived to be 91 and her mother lived to be 95.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd in 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Alford of Oceanside, Calif.; two sons, Jack and Boyd Pollard of Memphis; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2005, in the North Vista Baptist Church. She was buried beside her husband in San Marcos Cemetery.
