Wednesday, June 1, 2005
Cloyce W. "Hank" Golden, 92, of Piggott died Friday, May 27, 2005, in the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

He was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Greenway, the son of the late William Henry and Rhoda Jane Jewell Golden.

He was united in marriage to Mamie E. Lovelady on Oct. 23, 1937. They had three children.

A long-time resident of Piggott, he was a master mechanic by trade. The residents of Piggott often called on him during the evenings and weekends to request help with their cars that wouldn't start or that needed to be towed. He would always stop what he was doing to help someone when he was called.

He enjoyed gardening and was known by the abundant vegetable gardens that he produced each year, always sharing the fresh produce with friends and neighbors.

After retiring, he enjoyed taking spring vacations with his children to Augusta, Ga., Charleston, S.C., Nashville, Dallas-Fort Worth and Oklahoma City, Okla.

On Oct. 6, 2002, mayor Bud Holcomb proclaimed the day as "Hank Golden Day" in honor of his 90th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie E. Golden on Sept. 6, 1990; and two sisters, Maxine Walker and Elena Gray.

He is survived by three children, Valo Dement and husband, Bob, of Malden, Johnny Mack Golden and wife, Carol, of Summerville, S.C., and Bonnie Ham and husband, Sam, of Blytheville; five grandchildren, Robert Dement, Perry Dement, Steve Crowson, Cyndi Ham and Michael Ham; two great-grandchildren, Elizabethe Dement and David Dement; one sister, Pauline Mitchell of Fenton, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Smith and Charles Crowson officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. Active pallbearers were Eddie Benbrook, Marion Blue, Randy Lovelady, Blane Wilhite, Weldon Lovelady and Brock Russell. Honorary pallbearers included William Crowson, Charles Crowson, Jim Walker, Myron Rogers and James Beaver.
