A native of Paragould, she was the daughter of the late J.O. Boyd and Stella Brown Boyd O'Hara. She married Floyd Cosby who preceded her in death on April 9, 1988. She was a 1940 graduate of Piggott High School and attended Carbondale College in Carbondale, Ill. At the age of 54, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree and Teaching Certificate from M.T.S.U. She taught second grade at Richland School in Giles County for several years. She had over 9,000 volunteer hours with the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Craft Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also an avid bridge player.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Cosby; one daughter-in-law, Donnie Cosby; one great grandson, Timothy James Cosby; three brothers, Robert Boyd, J.D. O'Hara and George O'Hara; and one sister, Pauline Palazzola.
Survivors include two sons, James (Betty) Cosby of Columbia and Billy W. (Sandy) Cosby of McDougal; two sisters, Wilma (Art) Monroe of Amarillo, Texas, and Barbara (Gordon) Braun of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Bryce Cosby and David Cosby, both of Columbia, and Greg Mohundro of Ripley, Miss.; and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Cosby of Marshfield, Mo.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Gardner and Dee White officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
