Ardell "Art" Holifield

Ardell "Art" Holifield, 83, of Piggott died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Pollard, the son of the late James Monroe and Carrie Vagle Vaughn Holifield.

He was united in marriage to Martha AD Parrish on May 15, 1953. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2003.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Hamilton.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Holifield, Homer Holifield and Charles Sherraden.

He is survived by one son, John Hogard and wife, Marsha, of West Memphis, Ark.; one grandson, Terry Hogard and wife, Wanda, of Paragould; one granddaughter, Michelle Malone and husband, Brian, of Jonesboro; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel; one brother, Melvin Holifield of Pollard; two sisters, Alma Mae Blake of Piggott and Betty Jean Whrolen of Dardanelle, Ark.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Dr. Shannon Holmes officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Terry Hogard, Brian Malone, Tom Sneed, Don Featherston, Bobby Shanklin and Ronnie Graddy. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Irby and Corky Edwards.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
