Gerald G. Reed, 64, of Rockford, Ill., died on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.

He was born on June 1, 1940, in Piggott, the son of Edgar and Mildred (Arehart) Reed.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Spurlock on Aug. 12, 1962, in Rockford, Ill.

Reed attended Faith Tabernacle Church in Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mildred Reed; wife, Barbara Reed; one brother, Ray Reed; and three sisters, Bonnie Thrasher, Dorothy Reed and Velma Duncan.

He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Smith of Machesney Park, Ill.; two sons, Tim Reed and wife, Kathy, of Rockford, and Thatcher "Ted" Reed of Rockford; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Cory, Benjamin, Kristin and Kyle; one great-granddaughter, Hayley; three sisters, Zetta Dean "Zettie" West and husband, Tommy, Beda Dean Phillips and husband, Wavie, and Mary Jane Dees and husband, Dale, all of Arkansas; two brothers, James Reed of Rockford and Robert Reed and wife, Mary, of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Sunset Funeral Home in Rockford, Ill., with Marty Caliva of Faith Tabernacle Church officiating. Burial followed in Willwood Burial Park.
