He was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Holcomb, son of the late Herman and Dimple Lennie Hicks Steward.
He was united in marriage to Gearldean Tankersley on June 19, 1958. They had three children.
He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora, Ill., after 30 years, and was a lifetime member of the UAW.
He was preceded in death by one son, Rickie Steward; two sisters, Evalene Schnabel and Nellie Suhar; and one brother, Mandel Steward.
He is survived by his wife of Piggott; one son Leonard Steward and wife, Mary, of Piggott; one daughter, Linda Hall and husband, Danny, of Joliet, Ill.; four grandchildren, Tabitha Hall, Katie Hall, Kaela Steward and Leanna Steward; one brother, Sherman Steward of Holcomb; two sisters, Louella Burkman of Piggott and Marcella Torres of Campbell; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, (Wednesday) June 23, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Loy Culver officiating.
Burial was in the Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Danny Hall, Allen Edwards, Randy Steward, Mike Edwards, Gary Edwards and Jamie Whorton.
