Piggott joins "Paint the Town Yellow" effort for Guardsmen (01/02/08)
Piggott is joining other communities across Northeast Arkansas in an effort to show support for members of the Arkansas Army National Guard who are set to be deployed. Members of the 39th Infantry Combat Brigade (IBCT) and the 1038th Horizontal Construction Company (HCC) are scheduled to ship-out just after the first of the year and they'll be joined by several members of the 875th Engineer Battalion...

1968 With the new year comes a re-organization of the Piggott Chamber of Commerce 40 years ago this past week. The group has set dues at $48 per year, or four dollars a month, and leaders estimate annual operating expenses at around $5,000. The group also heard from Dorris Cox, of Cox Lumber Company and Planning Mill, on the family business. Cox noted that the firm paid out over $821,700 per year in salaries, but needed to make changes to stay competitive in today's market...

Mohawks fall to late Marmaduke rally (01/02/08)
For over three quarters the Piggott Mohawks looked poised to upset the top-seeded Marmaduke Greyhounds at the NEA Tournament in Jonesboro last Wednesday. But down the stretch the Hounds posted a fourth-quarter rally and pulled out a 50-43 win to advance. With the win the Greyhounds were slated to take on the Salem Greyhounds in Thursday evening's nightcap. Salem advanced earlier in the day Wednesday with a 75-60 win over the Brookland Bearcats...
