Tribe falls to Hoxie in DistrictPosted Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 11:27 AM
The Piggott Mohawks put up a good fight, but fell to the Hoxie Mustangs by eight points Tuesday afternoon in the District Tournament at Earle. The final was 60-52 as the Tribe ends this year's campaign.
The Mohawks had three players score in double figures, paced by sophomore point guard Spencer Coomer with 11. Meanwhile, juniors Alek Samples and Hayden McMillon finished with 10 points each in the loss. In the other boy's game Tuesday at Earle, Brookland and Tuckerman's boys combined to break two state records as the Bearcats advanced by a final of 117-104. The total of 221 points blasts the previous record of 201 set when Manilia beat Judsonia 102-99 back in 1964. The Bearcats also made 20 three point baskets in the game, breaking the record of 19 that was set twice. The first time was Feb. 2, 2001 as the Bergman Panthers took on Bruno-Pyatt and the second time was Nov. 11, 2004 in a contest between Rural Special and Evening Shade. In the only girls game of the day, Harrisburg beat Brookland 51-40 to advance to the next round. |
