Scouting the Harrisburg Hornets

Last week the Mohawks visited the fourth-ranked 3A team in the state at Earle, this week the sixth-ranked Harrisburg Hornets come to Parker Field for homecoming 2009.
The Hornets finished last year at 10-2 after losing to Fountain Lake 20-62 in the second round of the playoffs. The Hornets returned seven starters on offense, including quarterback Zach Davis, and five on the defensive side of the football. Last season they averaged about 31 points a game, right in line with the 34-6 win over the Mohawks in week six. This year they stand at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. In week one they beat-up Cross County 52-8, and in week two they thumped Hughes 44-0. Week three saw them tested, but they pulled out a 27-18 win over Riverview. Sept. 25 they hosted the Rivercrest Colts and came out on the short end of a 28-44 decision, and last week they mauled the Manila Lions 55-14. In last weeks win Davis passed for over 450 yards, and three of the Hornet receivers had over 100 yards receiving. The Mohawks will likely see more of the same, along with a fairly balanced running attack. Although they are very experienced, the Hornets don't have a deep bench and any injuries to starters could have an impact. If the Piggott defense can slow down the passing game early, and keep the Hornet offense on the sideline, the contest could be decided late. |
