Tribe pounds CorningPosted Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 5:24 PM
The Piggott Mohawks ran their season record to 7-4, and their conference record to 4-3, with a 4-0 shutout of the Corning Bobcats Tuesday afternoon at Independence Park.
Colby Lovelace and Jake Poe each had two hits and an RBI in the win, while Alek Samples, Tanner Murray, Daniel Cheshire, Spencer Coomer and Hayden McMillon all got hits. Tyler Grubb got the win on the mound, fanning six Bobcats and giving up just one base on balls. According to Coach Shawn Hearn it was anyone's game until the late innings, with the Tribe up just 1-0, but the Mohawks pulled away late and preserved the shut-out. Due to the rainy conditions this weekend's Duel on the Diamond at Paragould has been cut to a single elimination and the Mohawk's first round game was moved to Saturday morning. The Tribe is scheduled to take on the Gosnell Pirates at 9:45 a.m., and will continue later in the day with a win. As noted in this week's sports coverage--the Mohawks will host Brookland Monday afternoon, will visit Tuckerman Tuesday and will travel to Corning on Thursday. All three games will feature a 4 p.m. first pitch, and everyone is encouraged to get out and support the Mohawks down the stretch. |
