Football Mohawks thump CorningPosted Friday, November 7, 2008, at 12:49 PM
When the Piggott Mohawks beat the Corning Bobcats 21-0 Thursday night they broke a five-game losing streak to their cross-county rivals that dates back to 2001. That was the year that the Mohawks took a 21-0 lead at Parker Field as they celebrated homecoming, only to loose by a final of 21-22 with the game winner coming with less than ten seconds to play.
The previous year the Tribe did the same, spoil their rivals homecoming, as they laid a 42-20 whipping on the Bobcats at Corning on Sept. 9, 2000. Marc Yount led the way with 172 yards on 11 carries, Cody Culver had 109 on 10 and Kevin Reeves had 83 on 11 carries. Meanwhile, quarterback Michael Hoggard was two of six for 71 yards and a touchdown pass to Daniel Johnson. Since then the Mohawks dropped five games, and in 2004 and 2005 the two teams did not meet. I'll keep checking and try to determine the last time the Mohawks shut-out the Bobcats. |
