The Piggott junior Mohawks recorded their first win of the year Thursday night, a dominate 22-6 conference win over the Harrisburg Hornets. Friday night the conference-leading Earle Bulldogs visited Parker Field and spoiled homecoming by handing the Tribe a 0-43 loss. Everyone knew that Earle was good, and they showed all their weapons in Friday's win as they remain unbeaten on the season. Senior Mohawk running back Justin Howell was also shaken-up during Friday night's ballgame, and was transported to PCH as a precautionary measure. We'll have a complete update in the Oct. 8 print edition. If the talented Bulldogs can eliminate some of their mistakes they should be around well into the 3A playoffs this year..much as they were last year as a 2A school. There was an upset in 3A-3 Friday night, as the winless Rivercrest Colts beat the Hoxie Mustangs 27-26. Meanwhile the Corning Bobcats had to come from behind to beat the Cave City Cavemen 22-21 and Harrisburg pounded Manila 42-6. That leaves only Earle and Harrisburg unbeaten in conference, while the Mohawks join a log-jam of teams with one loss in conference play. This Thursday evening the junior Mohawks will host a tough Hoxie Mustang team at Parker Field, while the senior squad will travel Friday night to Harrisburg for what could be a pivotal conference game with the Hornets. |
