Homecoming Week for Mohawks

Senior Rob Rice had a big game against the Cave City Cavemen, with several big kick returns and the game-sealing interception.

This week is a busy one for the Mohawks. Thursday night the junior squad will host Harrisburg for their home-opener, and will be looking for their first win of the year.

Friday will feature a full day of homecoming activities, and the annual football contest will feature the Mohawks taking on the un-beaten Earle Bulldogs.

The annual royalty assembly will be held at 9 a.m. Friday morning,in the new PHS gym. The pep rally is set for 1 p.m. in the "middle" gym at PHS, and the homecoming parade is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Friday night the homecoming royalty will be introduced in a ceremony slated to begin at 7 p.m. with the game to follow at 7:30.

I usually scout the opposing team in the print edition of The Piggott Times, but didn't have room this week. Here are the details.

The Earle Bulldogs moved up to 3A from 2A last year, after going deep into the playoff..and they returned the majority of their players from both sides of the ball.

They are un-beaten at 4-0, but have only played one quality opponent in the early going. In week one they beat 2A Conway Christian 42-0, in week two they pounded Marvell 49-0 and in week three they humiliated the Hughes Blue Devils 70-6. Last week they hosted the Corning Bobcats and ran-out to the early lead, the eventual final was 46-14 Bulldogs as the Bobcats fell to 1-3.

The Mohawk offense and defense should give the Bulldogs some challenges this week, and the contest may come down to the Piggott squad's ability to keep the ball out of the hands of the Earle offense.

The other games in 3A-3 include: Rivercrest at unbeaten Hoxie,Corning at Cave City, and Harrisburg at Manila.

The best way for fans to help the Tribe contend with the Bulldogs is to show up at the football field and make some noise. I was dismayed that a handful of Cave City fans out-shouted the entire Piggott crowd at last week's ballgame..and almost cheered their team to a comeback victory. Please make some noise for the Mohawks this Friday night..
