New direction for Tribe basketballPosted Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 9:01 AM
The Piggott School Board made it official Monday, June 9 with the hiring of new head basketball coaches for both the boys and girls programs at PHS.
As speculated the boys job was given to Josh Robins, who coached the girls team last year but was the boys coach at Naylor the previous four. Michael Harrell will continue to do triple-duty as assistant to Robins along with his coaching of football and track. Athletic Director Dave Hendrix first recommended former PHS standout Angie (Beck) Burnside for the girls job, and a motion to that effect was made by Neil Morgan but died for lack of a second. The board acted on Hendrix's alternate recommendation to move assistant coach Natalie Stricklin into the head job, and that passed without dissent. As far as the girls assistant post vacated by Stricklin, it was filled as well. Acting on the recommendation of Hendrix the board voted to employ Alan Rabjohn of Rector as assistant girls basketball coach. He'll also serve as an assistant football coach and will assist Shawn Hearn with the Mohawk baseball squad next spring. More details may be found in the June 11 print edition of The Piggott Times.
