Football update
Posted Friday, October 10, at 11:56 AM
The Piggott junior Mohawks put up a gallant fight, but fell to the unbeaten Hoxie Mustangs 0-30 at Parker Field Friday night. Next week the junior Tribe will make the trip to Wilson to take on the Rivercrest Colts with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Tonight the senior Mohawks visit Harrisburg, and the Hornets will be celebrating homecoming (just like last year) and they're expecting a big crowd.

After many Mohawk fans were directed to out-of-the-way parking places last year (me included) I made an inquiry about the practice to the Harrisburg school officials.

Coach Craig called me back and noted that they only give preferential parking to Hornet fans that are tailgating, but added that they were expecting a huge crowd again tonight.

My concern was our older fans that may have to walk great distances from their parking spots.

Coach Craig noted that anyone who needs help can request it from the ROTC members that will be directing the parking. If you think it's too far to walk, or you have health problems that make it difficult, they will provide a golf cart or Mule.

He also encouraged Mohawk fans to get to the field early to avoid the last minute congestion.

Hopefully we'll have a big crowd from Piggott make the trip. But if you need some help all you have to do is ask, I'm sure they'll be glad to accomodate. Everyone I spoke to down at Harrisburg wants us to enjoy our visit, and will be working to be good hosts.

The Piggott junior Mohawks recorded their first win of the year Thursday night, a dominate 22-6 conference win over the Harrisburg Hornets. The Piggott Mohawk junior football team will kickoff their regular season Thursday, Sept. 11, as they visit Corning for a non-conference game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. as Coach Michael Harrell and his team get the 2008 campaign underway. Friday night the Piggott Mohawks will host the Valley View Blazers for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Parker Field. The Tribe and the Blazers are meeting for the first time on the gridiron, but are old foes when it comes to basketball and volleyball. Both teams made it to the first round of the playoffs last year, and both squads fell in that first round by fairly wide margins...

Are you ready for some football?
Posted Friday, August 1, at 2:10 PM

That's right football fans, it's August and that means that the football season can't be too far behind. Further evidence of that fact will be provided next Wednesday, Aug. 6 as the Piggott Mohawks begin their pre-season practice. Last year was a strange one for the Tribe, which qualified for post season play by virtue of some excellent play and the forfeiture of a couple of conference games. ...

The Piggott School Board made it official Monday, June 9 with the hiring of new head basketball coaches for both the boys and girls programs at PHS.
