Happy Fourth of July

Posted Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 9:45 AM

As we observe Independence Day 2008 I'd like for everyone to take a moment to remember those who have kept our country free.

Our founding fathers fought to offer us a chance to live and worship freely, and countless men and women have sacrificed their lives since to keep it that way.

Enjoy the barbecue, the picnic and the homecomings. But when you see fireworks this Fourth of July think about all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Think of each life burning brightly, fading to a glowing ember and finally growing cool and dark like..just like the fireworks.

Then think about all those brave women and men serving our country right now.

Freedom isn't free, it comes at a cost. Don't forget to thank those who have been paying the bills, and those who came before them.

I leave you with the words of George Orwell, who put it so well..

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
